Driveway Gravel Wickenburg
Dependable Driveway Gravel Delivery
One of the first things to consider when you’re choosing a business to deliver the gravel for your driveway; is do they deliver. While we do provide free loading into your pickup truck, the volume of gravel necessary, coupled with the labor required to remove the gravel from the bed of your truck, would cost you a lot of time and hard, back-breaking work.
So, just know that when it comes to getting gravel for your driveway unless you’re simply patching small areas, you should have it delivered. Another consideration when choosing a company to work with is, are they easy to work with? Are they the type of company that’s dependable and willing to help you understand the specific requirements of driveway gravel building? Well, at Art Barber Excavating, we do all of that. Not only will we deliver your gravel, but if requested, we’ll also help you build a gravel driveway that will last for years to come.
The Comparative Cost of Driveway Gravel
While the cost of concrete and asphalt is slightly higher than using gravel for your driveway, the difference isn’t really that much. Of course, you could lay a single layer of crushed rock, but the savings you may experience the first year will be literally washed away by the need to add more rock continually, sometimes more than once per year. If you want a stable and long-lasting gravel driveway, contact Art Barber Excavating, and we’ll provide a free consultation that will explain the steps necessary to get you the quality driveway you’re looking for.
Gravel Driveway Installation Process
Mark Path & Clear Topsoil

Determine where the driveway will be, and mark out the perimeter with paint or landscape stakes and strings. Clear away 4 or 5 inches of topsoil, including grass, trees, and large rocks. It’s at this time that you may want to consider contacting an excavating company for help.
Calculate Gravel Required

Next, you’ll need to determine the gravel volume needed to complete the job at each step. Multiply the height, length, and depth of your driveway. This will give you the cubic feet you’ll need, but you’ll need to divide that number by 27 to get the cubic yards.
Level Dirt, Add & Compact Base Layer

Before you add any gravel, you’ll need to level the path and add a weed barrier. Afterward, we suggest that you use #4 crushed limestone as your base layer, compact the landscaping stones, and press it into the soil to ensure that the subsequent layers of gravel have a solid foundation on which to lay.
Add Middle Layer & Top Layer

With the base layer compacted, it’s time to spread your second layer of gravel. Decomposed granite works well here, but you could also use #53 crushed limestone as it compacts well and isn’t conducive to erosion. Ensure that it is compacted then add a top level of pea gravel.
A Gravel Driveway That Will Last For Decades
While concrete and asphalt driveways can be cracked and must be continually patched over years of punishment from the sun, gravel driveways are more pliant and malleable when installed properly. Long driveways can be very expensive when using concrete or asphalt, whereas a gravel driveway is inexpensive to install and requires very little maintenance. Contact Art Barber Excavation for gravel delivery and installation services.
Gravel Driveways Stand Up To Arizona Sun
If you’re a transplant from the east coast or the midwest, you’re probably accustomed to seeing concrete or asphalt driveways installed on most upscale homes. This may lead you to believe that gravel driveways are for folks who simply can’t afford to pay for concrete or asphalt. The reality here in the desert is that asphalt and concrete don’t stand up to the Arizona sun as well as gravel does. The best part is that gravel driveways don’t cost as much as driveways built with other materials. Plus, gravel driveways require very little maintenance. If you’re looking to save time and money on your gravel driveway installation, look no further than Art barber Excavating. We’ve been in business for over 50 years and will take care of all the aspects of installing your new gravel driveway. From driveway installation to decorative gravel supplies and delivery, maintenance and repairs, Art Barber Excavation is the company to call for all your gravel needs.
Gravel Delivery

Depending on the length of your driveway, you may need more than a couple types of gravel delivered. If the driveway you’re creating is on a construction site and not of a permanent nature you may want Flex Base or another base course delivered. If your driveway has embankments, you’ll probably require Rip Rap to protect from erosion during rainy seasons.
Gravel Installation

While we offer traditional gravel driveway installation services consisting of multiple layers of gravel, another option is to use a product called TRUEGRID, which consists of permeable pavers to lock your gravel in place. These high-grade plastic pavers snap together over fabric placed on the path and require fill-gravel as well as surface gravel.
Gravel Spreading

When it comes to spreading gravel on your driveway, some companies will simply dump the gravel on your path while driving down it with the loaded dump truck bed tilted and the door swinging open. While this is an option, this method is far from professional. We use a combination of tools including a heavy-duty compactor and bobcat to properly spread and level your gravel.
